There were loads of interesting poets and short story writers there. A couple of guy’s acted two or three scenes from an adapted play of the Graham Greene novel, Ministry of Fear. There was plenty of teenage angst, a couple of pieces from the ‘confessional lust genre’ some excellent ‘whinge poetry’ and some remarkable writing on OCD. There were a couple of musicians – one man sung a song about the Marikana massacre in South Africa, where 44 striking miners were murdered by the police in 2012. There was even some Sci-fi – a story called Lunar Viruses. Morgan read some cool poetry about romantic break-ups and the trajectory of love that moved from infatuation to indifference. My cameraman for the night – Chinwag veteran, George Sandifer-Smith read a mad story about a haunted TV set. It proved a great hit. I read a selection of material, some of which is in the above video.
Don't Forget - next Chinwag Open Mic Event is going to be at Aberystwyth’s Art Center on the 6th March. Don’t forget our ‘Special Guest Reader’ is going to be the Pagan Priest David Parry – author of Caliban’s Redemption.
