Jenni’s piece worked well. She structured her poem influenced by (believe it or not) a poem she read about the unrelated subject of Night Running. Her work is heavily structured with repeating ideas, rhymes, refrains and ideas – plus there are interesting play on words and puns that run throughout the text. I very much like this poem, which depicts the mechanical slaughter of young men on the beaches of Omaha.
Jan wrote (as always) a charming and beautiful poem about a baby’s shawl that was woven so fine, it could be threaded through a wedding ring. The shawl, was passed to her through the family. Ultimately, this poem is a lament about never having the chance to be a mother - the sadness a woman feels around that issue; very competent. I hope both Jenni and Jan reads these spectacular poems at one of my Chinwag Shows.
